Rupari Nongrum-a young boy from Jirang as an inspiration for all

August: Recently,a video of a boy went viral through the social media like WhatsApp and Facebook. This video shows a blind boy,named Rupari Nongrum sitting on a chair and singing melodiously a song. The way this boy sang had greatly touched the viewers. Many were even brought to tears by the way this boy sang. His beautiful voice,the lyrics and the present condition of Rupari himself were very much the cause for making the viewers emotional and some of them could even empathize with him.

Rupari Nongrum comes from a village called Mawskei belonging to the Jirang LA constituency. He is the fifth among his siblings-altogether six of them. He is lovingly called as Bahdeng.Currently,he is studying in class II at a school in his locality.

Our correspondence from Rupang,as soon as they saw the video, were greatly touched and they felt the need to visit Rupari at his village. With the intention to support and inspire this talented boy,a team was formed under the leadership of Shillong Choice (an agency which buys and sells cars) to visit Rupari at Jirang.On the 5-8-2019, the said team started from Shillong at 11:00 a.m. to Mawskei. To reach Mawskei they had to pass through places like Mairang-Nongkhlaw and Patharkhmah.From patharkhmah, Mawskei is located about 5 Km away.

Mawskei is located on top of a small Hill and to reach Rupari’s house,the team had to climb the hill by foot. The boy’s house is located near the Mobile Tower of the Jio company. The team was able to meet Rupari just on the way itself since he was having a walk with his elder sister towards his friend’s house From there,the team followed Rupari till his house. From this visit, the team found out that Rupari comes from not a well- to-do family. His father remarried after Rupari’s mother passed away. And from then on, The boy, along with his other siblings, was under the care of his grandmother and eldest brother.

During the visit,the team had a great time chatting and playing with the family. The visit was winded up with a short prayer for Rupari and his family.

Our correspondence were happy to witness that even though Rupari is not blessed like other kids of his age physically( since he cannot see,literally) but he is greatly blessed with a talent which the mass don’t have. And that talent is to touch people with his beautiful and melodious voice.
