Shillong: The Environment Committee of the Assembly led by Mr. SK Sunn(the MLA of Mawphlang constituency),Mr. George Lyngdoh (the MLA of Umroi constituency) and Mr. Kimfa Marbaniang (the MLA of Rambrai constituency) today announced that the committee, permits the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya school Mawphlang to start functioning.
As a reminder, the above stated JNV school was closed on the 28th June 2019 after the Environment Committee inspected the school and found that the Sewage Treatment Plant of the school was not functioning.
After the inspection, the committee reported that because the Sewage Treatment Plant of the school was not functioning, all the wastes materials from the school remained disposed in the Mawphlang Dam which is actually the source of water supply to Shillong itself.
While speaking with the reporters, Mr. S.K.Sunn says that the blame is on the school administrative body itself which did not look into the matter responsibly. And now this matter has greatly affected the students of the school. This is the reason which led the committee to take the initiative to inspect the school and to take the decision of closing down the school for the time being.
On the 12th of August 2019,the committee went again for inspection of the school and now they found that the Sewage Treatment Plant is repaired properly which led the committee to permit again the school to start it’s function again.
